About MOOCs@Illinois
In the summer of 2012, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign partnered with Coursera to offer free online courses to anyone in the world with an internet connection. Since then, Illinois has made great strides in building upon its reputation as a leader in the field of online education. As a land-grant institution Illinois has also utilized its relationship with Coursera in order to expand its outreach and engagement. Its accomplishments include:
- Offering over 150 courses in topics that range from Microeconomics Principles to Global Postharvest Loss Prevention
- Awarding over 85,000 certificates of course completion
- Using the Coursera platform to offer an innovative, fully-online iMBA for a third of the cost of a traditional MBA
- Continuing the legacy of innovative research at Illinois by studying the educative potential of MOOCs
